My favorite 18C new feature is not a new functional capability, nor a complete new concept.  It is a quality of life enhancement that will allow you to update information in a much more efficient way.  We already had the capability to update multiple records using ‘Mass Update’.  Now ‘Click to Edit’ is adding an alternative in Engagement Cloud, to update multiple records also, but more efficiently in certain situations.  Let me explain.

Mass update

Mass update is great to manipulate multiple records simultaneously.  It allows you to select a number of records, and then update the same fields for all those records with the same new value.

Click to edit

Click to edit allows you to update multiple records on a list page also, but in a very different way.

  1. You can update multiple records one by one, select different fields for each record and update them with different values for each field
  2. You can save or cancel all the changes with a single click.  No need to save changes on each record once after the other anymore

So how do they compare

So now Engagement Cloud has 2 different but complementary ways to update multiple data records at a time.  They each provide in certain situations, an efficient mechanism to update multiple records.  For me, ‘Mass Update’ is better when updating multiple records the same way, and ‘Click to Edit’ is better to quickly update multiple records any way you want.
