Edward, why are you dedicating a blog post on the fact we now have an out-of-the-box ‘Owner’ field on custom objects? Good question! The custom object owner field in itself is not an earth shattering addition to Engagement Cloud. The same could be achieved in the past by adding a …. custom owner field to a custom object. But this enhancement is much more than just about a custom object owner field.
Having the field out-of-the-box over having to create is custom ourselves allows a lot of the security and search features to optimally cater for an owner field.
Custom Object Security
By having an out-of-the-box owner field, the security console can automatically cater for owner based security or security based on the owner management chain. No more need to get into the Security Console in order to create owner based security ourselves.
Custom Object Search
Having the out-of-the box owner field also brings the custom object search inline with how search over other objects work. We now can search for custom object records owner or owned by subordinates out of the box.
